Ashburton Car Club takes lead in Canterbury Interclub Series

A second place for Jeremy Beaton (Mitsubishi Evo 1), at the Little River Hillclimb on Banks Peninsular, with the support of Greg Cross (Subaru WRX) 6th, Thomas Muckle (Honda Integra) 7th, Wayne Muckle (Honda Integra) 13th and James Storey (Mitsubishi Evo 1) has lifted the Ashburton Car Club to a 21-point lead in the Canterbury Interclub Series for 2022.

The fastest person up Kinloch Rd, in a yet-to-be-confirmed record time of 1 minute 59.96 seconds, was the event winner Daniel Liemburg (main photo) from South Canterbury Car Club in his highly modified Nissan 370Z.

Beaton, in second, covered the 3.2km uphill climb in 2 minutes 1.5 seconds closely followed by the Ratec pair Stefan Moser-Rust (Evo 5) on 2.03 and Stu Carter (Starlet T) with a 2.08.

Interclub points earners were (Position and points):
Ashburton Car Club: Jeremy Beaton 2nd – 20, Greg Cross 6th – 17, Thomas Muckle 7th – 16, Wayne Muckle 13th – 11 and James Storey 14th – 10.


Ratec Motorsport: Stefan Moser-Rust 3rd – 19, Stuart Carter 4th – 18, Mark Higgins 10th – 13, Justin Prattley 11th – 12 and Dan Haworth15th – 9.


Canterbury Car Club: Joshua Thomas 8th – 15, Derek Hartley 9th – 14, Reno Carter 16th – 8, Graham Crow 20th – 7 and Sharon Kier 21st – 6.

This certainly looks like the year when Mid Canterbury will reign supreme. They have their own Le Bretons Rd Gravel Sprint on November 20th and hopefully a venue can be found to run the lost grass Autocross before Christmas. Can they win by 100 points seems to be the remaining question?
