Brodie Kostecki and Todd Hazelwood have won the 2026 Repco Bathurst 1000 in unthinkable fashion, coming back from a botched pit stop to take the lead on the final lap when the leader ran out of fuel.
“I can’t believe we won Bathurst,” commented Kostecki. “We needed a bit of luck to go our way and it did. We didn’t have the fastest car today so super proud of the whole Shell V-Power Racing Team, this Ford Mustang was on rails!”
Kostecki dominated much of the day and appeared set to cruise to victory, before his penultimate pit stop on Lap 124 was held up as his crew struggled to install new brakes on the right front corner, costing crucial seconds and allowing Anton De Pasquale to vault into the effective lead.

De Pasquale and Lee Holdsworth then appeared set to comfortably win his first Bathurst 1000, before the topic of fuel conservation crept into frame.
De Pasquale began to appear vulnerable as his lead shrank, but then appeared saved when Chaz Mostert crashed at Forrest Elbow on Lap 156, bringing out the Safety Car after over 960 kilometres of green flag racing.
Restarting with three laps to go, Kostecki, used his fresh tyres to pass rookie pole sitter Zach Bates for second and set after chasing down Chevrolet’s De Pasquale.

The Team 18 driver was in maximum fuel save, and slowed on the climb up Mountain Straight on the final lap, allowing Kostecki to stride ahead and win his second Great Race in three years.
Will Brown and Scott Pye finished second in a Ford 1-2, while Bates and Aaron Seton rounded out the podium in a sensational weekend for the Canberran.

The result means Brown wins the Ryco Enduro Cup, earning him 25 bonus points for the start of the Supercars Finals in a fortnight on the Gold Coast.
“Tough day but it’s a bit of a bittersweet one,” said Brown. “All you want to do is win Bathurst, but we ended up coming out of this week with the Enduro Cup, the points that go with that leading into the Finals, and we’re fourth in the Championship now which is where we wanted to be after what was not an ideal start to the season up until Ipswich.”
Ryan Wood and Jack Le Brocq locked in the final berths in the Supercars Finals, with Le Brocq finishing fourth today and Wood 24th.

Today’s race was the fastest Bathurst 1000 in history, completed in five hours and 54 minutes.
Over 204,223 people attended the 2026 Repco Bathurst 1000, the largest attendance figure since 2018.
The Championship now heads to the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, October 23-25 on the streets of Surfers Paradise.
