Hot Waters three race victories in Sydney

Monster Castrol Racing’s Cam Waters has jumped to the top of the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship leaders board with three outstanding race wins at the Thrifty Sydney 500 opening round in Australia.

Will Brown has moved into second with Chaz Mostert third ahead of Broc Feeney and highest placed Kiwi driver, Matt Payne, in fifth.  Fellow Kiwis Andre Heimgartner sits in tenth with Jaxon Evans 13th, Ryan Wood 14th and Richie Stanaway 25th.

In the opening 26-lap race on Friday evening at the Sydney Motorsport Park, Waters took control finishing nearly 17 seconds ahead of Mostert with Thomas Randle denying Matt Payne the final spot on the podium, Ford filling the top four positions ahead of Will Brown in fifth.

Contact at the final corner of Race 2 on Saturday evening between Waters and race leader Broc Feeney resulted in an investigation as Waters out-dragged the latter to win by less than a nose (0.003 seconds).  Waters survived the inquest as well as being cleared of a contact/redress situation earlier in the race.

With four laps to go, Waters turned Feeney around at Turn 4.  Waters then redressed the situation allowing Feeney to catch up and take the lead.  In doing so, he bulked Brown giving himself a chance to attack Feeney which he did for the race victory.

In the final 52-lap Race 3, rain came into play towards the end with all drivers opting to stay on dry-weather tyres.  Waters already had control of the race with a 11-second lead over Brown while Mostert climbed from 10th on the grid for a well-rewarded third place.

The Supercars season continues at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix on March 13-16 with Waters holding a 60-point lead over Brown with Mostert five-point further back in third.
