Two races in Taupō today, revised event schedule

Supercars will hold more racing than originally planned today, with 320 kilometres worth of racing scheduled for Saturday at the ITM Taupō Super 440.

With heavy rain and wind predicted to arrive on Sunday as Cyclone Vaianu makes landfall, Supercars moved to change the event schedule to ensure maximum racing across the weekend.

Today’s second race – originally scheduled for 37 laps – will be extended to 60 laps, and all sessions moved forward 30 minutes.

Sunday’s race has in turn been shortened from 60 to 37 laps, and rescheduled for 9:45 a.m. NZST.

Friday’s practice action saw fan favourite Kiwi Ryan Wood and Toyota at the top of the time sheets.

The 22-year old from Wellington posted the fastest lap of the day, just 0.003 of a second faster than 2024 Supercars champion Will Brown.

However both pointed to third-quickest driver and championship leader Brodie Kostecki, who was strong across both practice sessions, as potentially the early form driver.

On-track action resumes this morning at the ITM Taupō Super 440, with Boost Mobile Qualifying for today’s two races beginning at 9:40 a.m. on the revised schedule.

Today’s first race, still 37 laps and 120 kilometres in length, will begin at 12:20 p.m. local time, while the lengthened Race 9 of the 2026 season begins at 3:30 p.m.

The driver who scores the most points across this weekend’s event in Taupō and next weekend in Christchurch will be awarded the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy, named for beloved Kiwi driver Jason Richards who succumbed to cancer in 2011.
