Brendon Hartley has scored a driver’s rating of 5/10 by Autosport.com in their Russian Grand Prix driver ratings. In its post-Grand Prix analysis, Autosport.com gives a rating and explanation for each F1 driver and in turn gives readers an opportunity to also rate each driver.
In giving Hartley a 5/10, the website explains…
“Sirotkin’s spin contributed to Hartley being eliminated in Q1, but even taking that into consideration he was firmly the second-fastest Toro Rosso driver in Russia. He had no chance to do anything in the race given the brake problems that forced both cars out. That means he can only really be judged by his practice and qualifying performance and he was firmly outpaced by Gasly.”
Scyderia Toro Rosso team mate Pierre Gasly fared better with a 7/10
“Gasly drove with his usual verve throughout the weekend in a Toro Rosso that didn’t look the easiest to drive, extracting a decent lap time from it during Q1. Unfortunately, the fact he had engine change grid penalties and then retired early with the front brake problem meant that was about as far as his real participation in the weekend went. Futilely fast and fearless.”
This week only one driver scored 10/10 and that was Mercedes F1 driver Valtteri Bottas
“While the team orders that cost him victory were understandable and logical, it’s impossible not to feel sorry for Bottas losing out on a thoroughly deserved first victory of 2018. He had the air of a man who knew he could pull speed out of the bag in the crucial second sector to outpace Hamilton, and he did nothing wrong in the race other than not being in championship contention.”
Only one other driver scored a 5/10 and that was Marcus Ericsson from Sauber! This weekend we have the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka. Let’s hope Hartley can imporve.
