Brendon Hartley has scored his best rating this season, given a 8/10 by Autosport.com in their United States Grand Prix driver ratings. In its post-Grand Prix analysis, Autosport.com gives a rating and explanation for each F1 driver and in turn gives readers an opportunity to also rate each driver.

In giving Hartley a 8/10, the website explains…

“This was a quietly effective weekend from Hartley, who despite being condemned to starting at the back alongside team-mate Gasly thanks to engine component changes managed to produce what was probably as good a result as a Toro Rosso was going to get at Austin. Yes, he needed good fortune to pick up ninth place with others hitting trouble and exclusions, but he was perhaps in only the eighth-fastest car.”

His team mate Pierre Gasly only achieved a 7/10….
“It’s very difficult to judge Gasly’s performance level given he didn’t have a serious go at qualifying thanks to grid penalties and then picked up floor damage on the first lap that hobbled him in the race and made tyre management particularly difficult. Q1 hinted that he did have a pace advantage over Hartley, so we can give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was at least doing a decent job.”

Both Kimi Raikkonen and Nico Hulkenberg scored the perfect 10/10. While Kimi won the GP, Hulkenberg was seen as the best of the rest (outside of Ferrai, Mercedes and Red Bull)

“Taking a Class B ‘victory’ that never looked in doubt represents an excellent weekend’s work from Hulkenberg. The only criticism you can level at him is that he didn’t improve on his second Q2 run, which is the most minor of quibbles as he still did enough to make Q3 and qualify strongly, translating that into the best possible result.”

So Hartley has improved from his 7/10 at the Japanese Grand Prix. Let’s hope this can continue at this week’s race in Mexico.
