Kiwis – Born to Fly 3.  Back in the air

The Kiwis – Born to Fly story and its third instalment is once again about to step back into the skies. Commencing April 2026, through to the end of July, the 3rd edition will once again screen on Air NZ’s international routes both short and long haul.

The remarkable story of Kiwis – Born to Fly is exposing the sport and the story of New Zealanders within, in all the various forms to a massive range of viewers. This marks the third time the documentary series has been accepted to screen on such a high-profile stage for such an extended period of screening time. This platform opens the sport up to both the fan and non-fan in a true documentary style but more importantly its opening New Zealand to thousands of people from a range of countries to view and enjoy.

David Turner, the show’s creator and one of the two producers along with Lyn Paton said “I’m delighted after many months we were able to get acceptance to be back again on this platform. It takes a lot of work in the background to make it happen and to now of had all three episodes of Kiwis – Born to Fly screen in this fashion means I feel we have hit some of the high targets that we set.

“The original goal and concept of the series comprised of two things. One, to get back to telling true stories and informative ones in the best fashion we could with what we could do with the budget we had.

“The second was to always showcase the many Kiwis and New Zealand businesses as seen in episode two, to as many as we could in any way possible to highlight our dedication to the sport and the many fine people that surround it along with the passion to make and create content.”

Kiwis – Born to Fly started out in 2024 as a idea on a small piece of paper with many scribbles and ideas on how to create something fresh but bringing back the art of story telling, showcasing just how many New Zealanders are in the high profile world of Motorsport.

Centred largely around the NTT INDYCAR Series, it took over eleven months to get off the ground. Completing it proved the concept and the fact it could be made for a reasonable budget. From there the focus moved slightly to launch episode two in 2025 and the feature was four New Zealand based companies that manufacture and create leading edge motorsport products in New Zealand and export globally.

Turning to episode three, the focus is the legacy and the future, highlighting the path many have played in the sport to those on the rise. Showcasing the IMSA 10 Hour Petit LeMan’s at Road Atlanta with a host of Kiwi icons and champions.

“What we know is this has only just scratched the surface of where Kiwis are in motorsport. There are quite literally so many more stories, race series and locations that can be covered and the goal now moves to seeing if the Kiwis- Born to Fly story can continue and we hope we can, “said David Turner.
