Strong entry list for North Island Endurance Series

The North Island Endurance Series entry list is gaining momentum with the first round scheduled for the 18-19 September at Hampton Downs. Past Champions Glenn Smith and John Deveth, head the list for outright victory in their GT3 Mclaren, closely followed by the experienced driver pairing of Andrew Fawcett and Sam Fillimore in their GT3 Audi R8 who could well spring a surprise given that the car is being run by International Motorsport’s very slick team.

If it’s wet the ‘Cat amongst the Pigeons’ may very well be the TCR class pairing of Gene Rollinson and Craig Innes who’s diminutive little Hyundai I30N TCR car proved to be a thorn in the faster GT3 cars sides last season.

Jono Lester makes a welcome return to the Endurance Series paired with Matt Dovey in their new LS7 powered Audi A5 in the 3-hour race, and in the 1-hour race, Lester will pilot one of two ex Thailand Trans-Am TA2 car, the second of which will be driven by Jay Corliss.

Strong entries in the 1-hour race, see several former BNT V8 cars headed by Tim Edgell very quick ex V8 SuperTourer ITM Holden. However, Lance Hughes, John Midgely, Tony Anderson, and at least 2 other similarly quick car’s including a gaggle of Porsche GT3 cars will see the One Hour race hotly contested with as many as 25 entries expected by the close of entries on the 17th of August.

Chester Bathroom in conjunction with Michelin tires has donated a set of race tire’s to suit the winner of a draw of all confirmed and entries, car, as a bonus to all those that competitors that confirm their entries for either the 3 or 1-hour race, by 5 pm on Monday the 17th of August next 2020.

New race regulations, see the link below, are designed to reduce running cost by minimising pit crew requirements and creating an even playing field between cars that have centre-lock wheels and car’s that have stud mounted wheels. Cars with centre-lock secured wheel may only use one wheel-gun between 2 mechanics over the line whilst cars with multi-stud secured wheels may use 2 wheel guns plus one additional mechanic-3 in total-over the line during the pit stop.

1 Hour competitors may also choose to sit stationary for 45 seconds in their cars during the compulsory pit stop-instead of the former 70 seconds,-instead of running around their stationary car which can still be accomplished by a fit, athletic driver in less than 30 seconds.
