Weather mixes it up in the AMC Summer Series

The weather did its best to run interference last Sunday, during Round Three of the Auckland Motorcycle Club Summer Series – on 15 November, at Hampton Downs.

The worst of the drizzle and light showers came in the morning – but by the end of the program the track was fully dry; although by then there had been numerous incidents resulting in the recovery vehicle and ambulance doing more laps than some of the competitors.

As always though, the Auckland Motorcycle Club crew had things under control, and there was never any doubt that the program would be completed.

Senior category points leader Daniel Mettam had a fall while leading Race Two by a comfortable margin, although he maintains the points lead
in Formula Two; while James Hoogenboezem was joined on the grid by brother Alastair, and went on to finish the day atop the tables for Formula One and Senior. Ray Clee and Daniel Bird were also both impressive in the tricky conditions.

Steve Bridge set the standard in Formula Two in his first outing of the season; a win and two second placing leaping him into third overall in the points, while Connor London’s consistency has him well in touch with Mettam with two Rounds to go.

The battle in Intermediate remains tense. Ben Rosendaal maintains a healthy lead in Pro Twin 650, while Gavin Veltmeyer has broken away in the Formula Three points because Mettam missed both races two and three. But there is just one point in it, in the overall Intermediate standing.

Regan Phibbs has added some additional spark into the Lightweight Production category – but is playing catch-up after missing Round One.

Will Ford holds a healthy point’s lead, but on-track there is little between himself, Veltmeyer and Phibbs.

Nathanael Diprose continues to dominate 250 Pro Lite – now nine wins from nine starts, and he sits some 81 points clear, as well as leading the Junior category overall.

Diprose also holds a similar lead in the WIL Sport Hyosung Cup – however Jacob Stroud did secure victory in the Le Mans start race, to become the first person to beat Diprose on a 250 this AMCC season, doing so on the X4R.

Post Classic’s standout was Nigel Lennox – running in Pre 89 Formula 2, he was able to use the conditions to allow his 600 Honda to mix it with the 1000cc and 1100cc capacity bikes that generally dominate.

Des Berghan and Paul Garrett retain their Clubman Junior and Senior point’s leads respectively, despite both not appearing at Round Three. It was just that sort of meeting.

The AMCC Club Series now breaks for the summer – to allow competitors to prepare and compete in both the Suzuki Series, and National Road Race Championships.

The AMCC action will then recommence at Round Four on Sunday 14th February, at Hampton Downs.
