Lawson helps Verstappen put the boot in

The unfortunate tyre failure for Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in the Azerbaijan Formula One Grand Prix was seen by millions around the world, particularly the frustration of the race leader, putting ‘the boot’ into what was left of his left-rear!  We find out later that the race boots that Verstappen was wearing at the time were Liam Lawson’s.

Earlier in the weekend, Lawson’s Hitech team received an urgent call from Red Bull to see if Liam had any spare racing boots as there was an issue with Verstappen’s.  Fortunately, both drivers share the same shoe size and Lawson had his spare pair, that he uses for his DTM racing, with him in Baku.

The rest is now history with Verstappen using the boots over the weekend, including for the Grand Prix.  So far the boots haven’t been returned but Puma are organising another pair for Liam.
