Shane van Gisbergen led Trackhouse Racing with a 14th-place finish in the Goodyear 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, South Carolina on Sunday afternoon. Ross Chastain finished 16th while teammate Connor Zilisch was credited with an 18th-place finish.
“Decent result,” exclaimed van Gisbergen! “We didn’t qualify very well but from the start, the guys did an awesome job tuning up my WeatherTech Chevrolet and as the race went on, we got better and better. Good day, onto Martinsville next weekend.”
Van Gisbergen started 33rd and battled the handling of his WeatherTech Chevrolet but started to find his groove. On lap 45, the No. 97 team opted to pit for adjustments and van Gisbergen finished the stage 25th, one lap off the lead.
He started the second stage 23rd and a caution was quickly thrown, and van Gisbergen was granted his lap back. He quickly worked his way into the top 15 and battled to maintain position. He finished the stage 15th.
In the final stage, van Gisbergen started 14th and after a caution, on lap 132 van Gisbergen raced in the top-five for seven laps. Van Gisbergen earned an 14th-place finish, his best at the South Carolina track.
Chastain started from 25th and ultimately finished the race 16th.
Zilisch started 32nd and overcame a loose handling car over the final 90 laps to post an 18th-place finish, his best effort since Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas earlier this month.
The NASCAR Cup Series will return to action Sunday, March 29 at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia.
