Andre Heimgartner has announced that he will remain on the V8 Supercars grid this year, confirming a full time drive with Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport.
Heimgartner’s signing with the team provides the talented New Zealand youngster the opportunity to again show his skill behind the wheel in Australia’s premier racing category.
Following his exit from Super Black Racing in 2015 and without another V8 Supercars seat available at the time despite talks with various parties including LDM, Heimgartner announced he would join the Australian GT Championship in a Melbourne Performance Centre Audi for the upcoming season.
However with negotiations subsequently breaking down on the GT side, the door was re-opened for further discussions with Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport and a deal was struck.
“V8 Supercars has always remained the goal for me, so to join Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport and be on the 2016 Supercar grid is a great feeling. Thanks to Lucas for the opportunity,” said Heimgartner.
“I’m looking forward to showing what I am capable of and working hard toward success with the LDM team. I’m confident we can punch above our weight throughout the season.”
For the owner of LDM, Lucas Dumbrell, Heimgartner completes a strong team line-up with existing LDM driver Nick Percat, who enters his second season with the team.
“Andre is a talented, professional operator and I know he will fit in well here with us at LDM. I can’t wait until the season begins,” said Dumbrell.
Heimgartner brings strong form into the team for the upcoming season, winning the most recent two rounds of the NZ V8 Touring Car Championship and will be one to watch come the V8 Supercar opener at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, March 3-6.
