In an nzherald.co.nz article titled ‘Chris Pither in control of Supercars feeder series‘ Eric Thompson gives a good summary of Kiwi driver Chris Pither’s background and why he is now leading the Dunlop Super2 Series in Australia. As Thompson writes, Pither has ‘flown under the radar’ and has soldiered away in various V8 series in Australia since 2006. It is no surprise to see his success this season.
Pither scored grabbed an unlikely podium on the finish line in yesterday’s Dunlop Super2 Series race at Bathurst and now has a 32-point lead over Paul Dumbrell who did not finish the race. There is one round to go at the season ending Newcastle Supercars race weekend.
Pither is another driver who has come through the Toyota Racing Series, finishing fifth overall in the 2005 inaugural series before moving to Australia. While he didn’t win a race in the six round series (18 races) he did score a round win at Teretonga in Invercargill.
Also competing in that series was one Brendon Hartley who finished one place ahead of Pither, in fourth!
