After 130 attempts, Nulon Racing’s James Golding has today broken through for his first ever Repco Supercars Championship pole position with a blistering lap in Darwin.
After clocking the fastest time in Friday’s qualifying, Golding ran last in today’s Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout and outgunned the rest of the field to claim his first ever pole position.
The 28-year-old Gold Coaster pipped Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney by just 0.07 for the top starting spot on the grid in this afternoon’s opening race of the betr Darwin Triple Crown.
Golding’s maiden pole is also the first ever pole position for the newest team to the sport, Arundel-based (Gold Coast) Premier Racing, that first joined the Supercars grid in 2022.
It was also the first ever pole position for Romy Mayer – the first ever full-time female race engineer in the history of Supercars.
Starting behind Golding and Feeney in this afternoon’s 48-lap race around Hidden Valley will be Bathurst winners Mark Winterbottom (Dewalt Racing) and Nick Percat (Bendix Racing).
Anton De Pasquale was the best of the Ford drivers in the Shootout, he will start from fifth place in the Shell Ford Mustang alongside current Championship leader Will Brown (Red Bull Ampol Racing).
David Reynolds (Tradie Racing), Cam Waters (Monster Energy Racing), Tim Slade (Nulon Racing) and Andre Heimgartner round out the top ten starters for this afternoon’s race.
Race 11 of the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship is set to kick off at 3:10 p.m. ACST.
The betr Darwin Triple Crown is Supercars’ official Indigenous Round, with all 25 entered Supercars sporting unique indigenous-themed liveries in celebration of indigenous culture across Australia.
