Ross Chastain led Trackhouse Racing with an 18th-place finish in the eero 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday evening. Teammate Shane van Gisbergen placed 25th and Connor Zilisch finished 38th in the 400-mile race.
“We never could get a good balance on our SuperFile Chevy tonight,” commented SVG. “My No. 97 team worked hard to make improvments throughout the race and that last green flag run, the car came came to life a bit more. Not the finished we wanted but something to add to our notes.”
Van Gisbergen started 30th on Sunday at Chicagoland and battled the handling of his SuperFile Chevrolet early on but maintained track position. During Stage 1, the No. 97 team used two cautions to make adjustments to the SuperFile Chevrolet and van Gisbergen finished the stage 30th.
In Stage 2, van Gisbergen started 33rd after the No. 97 team made a big adjustment during the stage caution. He quickly charged up to 25th before a caution came out on lap 94. Van Gisbergen restarted the stage in 23rd and continued to battle until the green flag pit stop cycle started.
The No. 97 team came to pit road for a scheduled pit stop on lap 129 but he got zapped by an utimeley caution, trapping the No. 97 team a lap down. He and the team took the wave around to get back on the lead lap and finished 28th when Stage 2 ended on lap 165. During Stage 3, the No. 97 team continued to make adjustments to the SuperFile Chevrolet. Van Gisbergen battled the final 102 laps and took the checkered flag 25th.
The NASCAR Cup Series will return to action Sunday, July 12 at EchoPark Speedway in Hampton, Georgia.
