Ross Chastain led Trackhouse Racing with a 26th-place finish in the AdventHealth 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway on Sunday afternoon. Connor Zilisch finished 29th while teammate Shane van Gisbergen was credited with a 36th-place finish.
“Just a struggle for our #97 Red Bull team today,” said SVG. “We started out pretty good with our lap times, but the car was just very tight. We couldn’t really find the balance on my Chevrolet to keep us competitive.
“We had to make some major changes after losing a couple laps, then just couldn’t make up any positions with the long green flag runs. A lot to learn from today, but we’ll be ready for Talladega next weekend.”
Having qualified 17th for the 400-mile race, Van Gisbergen battled a loose handling Chevrolet early on in the race, dropping back to 20th by lap 25.
The balance of the No. 97 Chevrolet seemed to even out before the team opted for a green flap pit stop on lap 37. When van Gisbergen rejoined the field, he quickly started fighting the handling of his Chevrolet.
He finished Stage 1, 25th, then throughout the length of Stage 2, van Gisbergen struggled to maintain position while continuing to battle balance issues, falling off the lead lap and finishing the stage 31st. The final stage was a continuous battle for the No. 97 team and van Gisbergen finished the race in the 36th position.
The NASCAR Cup Series will return to action Sunday, April 26 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway
