No joy for SVG in Las Vegas

Shane van Gisbergen has finished in 36th place in the Pennzoil 400 NASCAR race held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway over the weekend.

“Tough, long day,” commented van Gisbergen. “Thought our race was going to go better than that but got some damage on lap one when I made a mistake. Then, just continued to struggle the rest of the day. Thanks to my #97 guys for continuing to work on my SuperFile Chevy. We’ll move on to Darlington.”

Van Gisbergen started the race 16th, but on the first lap briefly lost the handling with his #97 SuperFile Chevrolet, causing front end damage. He worked to maintain his position and finished the stage 34th, one lap down.

In Stage 2, van Gisbergen continued to fight the handling of his Chevrolet and the #97 team continued to repair the damages. Crew Chief, Stephen Doran, opted to run longer in the pit stop cycle in hopes to catch the lucky dog spot, but finished the stage 34th, two laps off the lead.

In the final stage, van Gisbergen and the team worked together to improve track position. Ultimately, van Gisbergen finished the race 36th.

Trackhouse Racing teammates Ross Chastain finished in 17th-place finish with Connor Zilisch 32nd. The NASCAR Cup Series will return to action Sunday, March 22 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.
