Penrite Racing celebrates 50 years of iconic Allan Moffat victory

Penrite Racing is thrilled to unveil a striking one-off Allan Moffat tribute livery, which the team will carry during this weekend’s Penrite Oil Sandown 500.

Penrite Racing’s Mustangs will sport the iconic ‘Brut 33’ livery, paying tribute to the Ford Falcon XB GT that carried Moffat to his third Sandown endurance event victory.

The Number 19 and 26 Mustangs will both carry the iconic blue hue of Moffat’s Falcon, with Penrite Oil’s original logo adorning the doors and bonnet of the Gen 3 Mustang.

Since forming a partnership in 2023, Penrite Oil are proud to continue their support of Dementia Australia. The partnership is aimed at raising awareness and community support for those patients and families impacted by dementia, with Allan Moffat a Dementia Australia patron.

This year’s event commemorates 50 years since Moffat’s 1974 triumph, the third of his six Sandown endurance victories. Following the withdrawal of Ford factory support at the end of 1973, Moffat’s 1974 victory was the first victory for his own team; Allan Moffat Racing.

Opting to pull out of the Australian Touring Car Championship part-way through the 1974 season, Moffat air freighted the XB Falcon to the United States to undertake a secret rebuild and testing program. The project was given the code name ‘Project B52’, symbolic of Moffat’s passion for military strategy.

The Falcon was tinkered with by the ex-Ford Special Vehicles Division known as Kar Kraft, the same high-level organisation that had built the all-conquering Mustang that springboarded Moffat into notoriety in Australia.

Arriving at Sandown with a brand new livery in conjunction with major sponsor Brut 33 Aftershave, the XB Falcon was on the pace straight away.

Qualifying on the second row behind the brand new V8-powered HDT Toranas, Moffat inherited the lead when the pair of Peter Brock and Colin Bond struck trouble.

From that point, Moffat was insurmountable, winning the Sandown 250 (denoting 250 miles/400 kilometres) by a crushing two lap margin.

Penrite Racing will field a formidable lineup at Sandown and Bathurst. Matt Payne will be joined in Car 19 by Garth Tander, the 2016 Sandown 500 Winner and five-time Bathurst 1000 champion. In Car 26, reigning Bathurst Champion and 2017 Sandown 500 winner Richie Stanaway will team up with Dale Wood.
