Wilson Security Racing GRM (Volvo Polestar Racing) driver Scott McLaughlin had a strong V8 Supercars weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park where he claimed one pole position, two top five finishes and moved to just one position from the top ten in the championship.
”I am pretty stoked with the results, good points for us and we are back on board,” said McLaughlin.
The Kiwi improved his pace throughout the weekend, qualifying ninth for the first race, sixth for the second and claimed his second pole position of 2015 for the third race. McLaughlin fought his way up through the field in the races, noting fourth in the second race as best result and was in the podium fight for the third race that was hit by rain.
”The pole was great, so satisfying for the team. It has been a pretty awesome weekend, we moved to eleventh in the championship and we are going to continue the fight back to the top,” said McLaughlin.
David Wall claimed his best qualifying result of the year for the third race with 15th on the grid, just four tenths of a second from pole. The races were eventful for the Australian who finished 20th in the second race as his best result of the weekend.
”We had a much better qualifying for the third race, best feeling I have had with the car all year. If I’m to take something out of the weekend it is that. I had an incident with Todd Kelly. It did some damage that the boys had to fix and we went down some laps. I think we definitely gave away something today, but that is the way it goes, bring on the next one,” said Wall.
McLaughlin has climbed to eleventh position in the championship, just 59 points from Rick Kelly in tenth position. V8 Supercars continues with the Wilson Security Sandown 500 on September 11-13th, marking the first of three endurance races.
