Supercars head to Townsville

The Repco Supercars Championship returns to the streets of Townsville this week for the NTI Townsville 500, boasting one of the biggest on and off-track programs in the popular event’s history.

Celebrating the 15th anniversary of Supercars inaugural visit to North Queensland, the championship will host five days of entertainment and action in Townsville this week, culminating in two 250-kilometre races at the Reid Park street circuit across Saturday and Sunday.

James Courtney was a winner at the very first Supercars event in Townsville in 2009, and is one of just three drivers who have contested all 38 Supercars races held to date in Far North Queensland.

In recent years, Gold Coast-based Courtney has blended work and play at Townsville, road tripping up the coast with his wife and children during school holidays.

Now driving for the Blanchard Racing Team and mentoring Perth youngster Aaron Love, Courtney is hoping to rekindle that Townsville success when he hits the track on Friday.
