Van der Drift on Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe podium in Barcelona

An eventful Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya came to an end for Leipert Motorsport. With four Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 cars on the grid, the team faced a weekend largely defined by changing weather conditions. Friday’s two free practice sessions took place mostly on a wet track, before conditions initially improved for Saturday’s qualifying sessions.

Heavy rain and severe weather ultimately made it impossible to hold Race 1, which had to be cancelled. Race 2 on Sunday took place in dry conditions but was repeatedly interrupted by yellow flags and Safety Car periods. In a turbulent race, Leipert Motorsport ultimately secured the overall victory with Henri Tuomaala and Matias Salonen (#88 PRO).

Australian Todd Kingsford and Kiwi Chris van der Drift delivered the best qualifying result among the Leipert cars in the second session. Fourth overall put the Pro-Am duo in a promising position for Sunday’s race.

They also delivered a strong performance in the race amongst the front runners in their class and ultimately secured third place in the Pro-Am category, adding another podium finish for Leipert Motorsport.

“Barcelona was a very intense weekend for us,” commented Marcel Leipert, Managing Director. “The changing weather conditions and the cancellation of the first race presented us with some unusual challenges. That makes it even more rewarding to finish the weekend with an overall victory and another podium result.”

Leipert Motorsport’s focus now turns to the next and final round of the Super Trofeo season. At the end of October, Monza will host the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe season finale as well as the Lamborghini World Finals, for which the team will be preparing intensively over the coming weeks.
