Ross Chastain led Trackhouse Racing with a seventh-place finish in the Iowa Corn 350 Powered by Ethanol NASCAR Cup Series race at Iowa Speedway on Sunday afternoon. Teammates Connor Zilisch placed 11th and Shane van Gisbergen finished 30th.
“Wasn’t the race we needed,” said SVG. “Just struggled with the handling of my Red Bull Chevrolet all day. Stephen (Doran) and the crew worked hard making adjustments in hopes to get it better but just couldn’t get it right.
“We’ll learn from it and move on to Richmond (Raceway). The next three weeks will be really important as we continue to fight for a spot in The Chase.”
Van Gisbergen started 23rd for the 350-lap race at Iowa Speedway. Early on, he battled the handling of his Red Bull Chevrolet, but was able to hold on to position and finish the stage in 23rd position.
At the stage break, the #97 team came to pit road and made a big adjustment to give van Gisbergen a shot at gaining track position. He started 24th in the second and dropped to the back before spinning on lap 91 and dropping off the lead lap.
A caution on the restart, quickly granted van Gisbergen a spot back on the lead lap. He finished Stage 2 in 29th position and started the final stage 30th chosing to run long in hopes for a caution. However, the stage ran caution free and the van Gisbergen was credited with a 30th-place finish.
The NASCAR Cup Series will return to action Saturday, August 15 at Richmond (Va.) Raceway
