Brodie Kostecki has booked himself a place in the bp Adelaide Grand Final following a brilliant win in the first of two 250km races at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 this afternoon.

The 2023 Supercars champion and Shell V-Power Racing Team driver eclipsed Penrite Racing star Matt Payne to take victory in an eventful encounter that saw multiple Safety Car periods and Aaron Cameron’s car catch fire early in the proceedings.

The other finalists vying for title glory had mixed fortunes.

Cam Waters finished a strong third ahead of Chaz Mostert, while Anton De Pasquale was sixth. Triple Eight drivers Broc Feeney and Will Brown endured a tough afternoon.

The former was 11th having dropped back in the latter stages, while Brown spun off when fighting Kostecki for the lead and finished 20th.

The Finals-shaping action continues tomorrow at Sandown with qualifying from 11:20 AEDT and the second 250km race at 3:30pm.
