An eventful race weekend at the iconic Autodromo Nazionale Monza has come to an end for Leipert Motorsport. In the International GT Open, Nicolas Stati and Brendon Leitch competed in the #70 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 in the Pro category. At the same time, the team entered the GT Cup Europe with Axel Bengtsson and Barrett Wolfe sharing the #88 Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2.
Both driver pairings showed good performance throughout practice and qualifying on Monza’s high-speed circuit. While the #70 prepared for the GT Open race, the #88 impressed with a second-place starting position for Race 1 and pole position for Race 2. As the weekend progressed, success and disappointment were closely intertwined: while an incident brought the GT Open campaign to a premature end, the #88 delivered the sporting highlight with an overall victory in GT Cup Europe.
“In Monza, success and disappointment were very close together for us this weekend,” commented Managing Directors Marc Poos and Marcel Leipert. “We are very pleased with the overall victory for Axel and Barrett in GT Cup Europe. At the same time, it is of course disappointing that Nicolas and Brendon’s GT Open race came to such an early end due to an incident that was beyond their control, especially after the very promising progress they had made in the opening stages.
“The contact at the start of the second GT Cup race, which was also beyond our control, prevented another top result. The entire team did a great job throughout the weekend, but unfortunately their efforts were not rewarded with the results we had hoped for on Sunday.”
For Nicolas Stati and Brendon Leitch, the weekend in Monza marked their return to the International GT Open behind the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2. In a highly competitive field, the duo collected valuable mileage throughout practice and qualifying as they prepared for Sunday’s three-hour race.
Stati took the start in the #70 and safely navigated the opening laps. More than that, he gained six positions and had already moved up to 11th place when two cars collided behind the Leipert Lamborghini in Turn 1.
One of the cars involved subsequently slid into the rear of the #70, damaging the Lamborghini to such an extent that continuing the race was no longer possible. As a result, the GT Open race came to an unfortunate and premature end for Stati and Leitch after seven laps.
