Hitech Pulse Eight’s Tymek Kucharczyk set the best lap of the week in Friday’s second session at the Hungaroring, as preparations ramped up for GB3’s debut race event in Budapest.
The championship leader recorded his best time of 1m39.185s in the final two minutes of the day, enough to put him just seven thousandths of a second clear of Rodin’s Louis Sharp, who also recorded a late flyer, but was finally usurped as the testing pace setter, having topped all three previous sessions.
In yet another close session at the Hungarian Grand Prix venue, Sharp was only 0.009s ahead of Kucharczyk’s teammate Gerrard Xie, with JHR’s John Bennett just 0.015s further back in fourth.
Bennett headed his JHR teammates with Patrick Heuzenroeder next up in fifth in his most competitive session of the week so far, and Josh Irfan completing the top-six.
Rodin’s Arthur Rogeon missed out on a top-six spot by 0.026s and was a similar distance clear of the third Hitech car of Will Macintyre.
Hugo Schwarze was the lead Elite Motorsport runner in ninth, and ahead of the third Rodin of James Hedley, who completed a top-10 covered by just over seven tenths of a second.
Nikita Johnson (VRD Racing by Arden), Jarrod Waberski (Elite) and teammate McKenzy Cresswell were all within eight tenths of Kucharczyk’s pace, with Fortec’s Colin Queen in 14th the final driver within a second of top spot.
Action resumes tomorrow, with qualifying at 11.40 local time (10.40 UK) before the first ever GB3 race at the Hungaroring at 18.10.
