F4 for Macau Grand Prix

It has been confirmed that the 2020 Macau Grand Prix will take place in November (19-22) and will see a change from Formula 3 to Formula 4 cars competing in the famous street race. With COVID-19 restrictions on international visitors, the annual FIA F3 World Cup race will not take place, ending a 37-year run of the category (1983-2018).

Instead, Formula 4 cars from the Chinese championship will compete, also using the race as their third and final round for the season.

It is unclear whether international drivers competing in other F4 championships’ will be allowed through their strict quarantine procedures.

The China Formula 4 Championship, endorsed by the FIA, uses the same Mygale chassis as the French, British and Mexican championships but with locally sourced 2-litre Geely engines.

Kiwi driver Conrad Clark (BlacksArts Racing Team) won the series in 2019, winning 12/17 races.

The Macau GT Cup will feature GT3 and GT4 race cars, with drivers selected from China GT Championship and Asia Pacific GT to compete with local counterparts.

The Macau Guia Race will be run in the TCR format, featuring selected drivers from TCR Asia Series and Asia Pacific Touring Cars 2.0T races as well as local drivers.

The Macau Touring Car Cup will continue last year’s format with the two classes of race cars ‘1600cc Turbo’ and ‘Above 1950cc’ competing on the grid.

Arrangements for the other races will be announced in due course.
