Kiwi FIA Formula 3 driver Louis Sharp has finished in the points picking up eighth place in the Feature Race held at the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest. Kiwi registered team Rodin Motorsport’s driver Brando Badoer took the final spot on the podium in third after Freddie Slater (Trident) and Ugo Ugochukwu (Campos Racing) went wheel-to-wheel for the win and the championship lead in the Budapest Feature Race, with the TRIDENT driver holding on to claim his first FIA Formula 3 victory.
“It was a good race going from P19 to P8,” said Sharp. “I did some really good overtakes. Had a good first few laps and then just picked them off one by one from there.
” I struggled a little bit at the end with the tyres, I felt like I was pushing quite hard at the start, so paid the price for that a little bit later on. With how difficult it is to overtake here we had to be on the attack and it’s nice to finish the weekend on a high.”
Sharp initially crossed the line in ninth but was classified eighth after fifth placed Théophile Nael was awarded two separate post-race time penalties dropping him to P20.
In Saturday’s Sprint Race it was Campos Racing’s Théophile Nael who claimed his second victory of the season with an impressive performance from sixth on the grid to win the Budapest Sprint Race. The French driver’s excellent start put him in contention early on before later overtaking Kanato Le for the lead. He went on to win the race, while the ART Grand Prix rookie took his maiden podium in second, as Ernesto Rivera made it two Campos cars on the rostrum in P3.
Badoer collected more points finishing fifth while sharp gained seven places finishing outside the top ten in 12th.
For the first time this season, Freddie Slater leads the Drivers’ Championship on 130 points, with Ugo Ugochukwu down to second on 122. Théophile Nael is third on 85 points, while Brando Badoer moves up to fourth on 71, as Ernesto Rivera rounds out the top five with 70. Sharp sits in 19th with 19-points.
In the Teams’ Standings, Campos Racing continue to lead the way on 277 points, with TRIDENT 196. Van Amersfoort Racing with 131 points are third, while Rodin Motorsport sit fourth on 120, as ART Grand Prix round out the top five on 119.
