Two-time Repco Bathurst 1000 winner Will Davison was supposed to be in Taupo as a spectator – but instead he’s ended up behind the wheel at this weekend’s Giltrap Group Historic GP, Round 3 of the Repco NextGen NZ Championship.
Davison will jump aboard Greg Murphy’s Ralt Formula Atlantic for selected sessions as part of a massive on-track program this weekend.
Defending Historic GP winner Kaleb Ngatoa topped the times overall today, just 0.3 seconds ahead of Murphy, while Davison was quickest in the second practice session.
The Atlantic grid will battle for the annual Taupo Historic GP title, while the young guns of the Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Trophy will continue their battle in Round 2 of the series this weekend.
Provisional results from Friday saw Ryan Wood top two of the three sessions, while James Wharton topped the second session – though as per the opening round, less than one second covered 14 cars.
Also on track today was the HVRA Saloons and Heritage Touring Car fields, while the famous A1GP Team New Zealand car – Black Beauty – completed its first few laps of the weekend ahead of demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday.
