Mixed fortunes again for Conroy

It was another weekend of mixed fortunes for Invercargill driver Jamie Conroy during Round 4 of the BNT NZ Touring Car Championship at Teretonga Park near Invercargill this weekend.

Conroy ticked off one milestone in qualifying, taking pole position after setting the fastest time in the Allied 24/7 Fuel Falcon, .033 of a second quicker than fellow Southlander Liam MacDonald.

Conroy was beaten away at the start of Saturday’s race but worse was to come as after a safety car period early in the race he retired with a broken driveshaft
Sunday was wet and the Allied 24/7 Fuel Falcon was forced to start from the back of the grid in both races after Saturday’s driveshaft issue. In both of Sunday’s races Conroy brought the car through the traffic to second place, happy with the pace of the car in the wet.

There was disappointment as he summed up his weekend however. “We were stoked with pole. It was our first one and we were working hard to get one. I didn’t get the best start in race one, we were jumped and then the driveshaft let go which was really disappointing. After that we had to start from the back row each time and we were a lap short in each race of challenging for the lead.”

“I’m happy with the car in the wet. In the dry it is strong enough to rug a couple of good laps in qualifying but we are missing horsepower. We need more horsepower for race pace.”

The next round of the championship takes place at Circuit Chris Amon in Feilding over the weekend of 11/12 February.
