Mount Panorama has claimed its first victims of the 2026 Repco Bathurst 1000 as drivers put it all on the line preparing for qualifying later this afternoon.

Blanchard Racing Team’s James Golding has topped the final practice session before Boost Mobile Qualifying takes place at 4:10 p.m. AEDT today.

While Practice 4 was run cleanly, Practice 3 this morning saw the event’s first two casualties in dramatic fashion.
Ryan Wood and Tony D’Alberto (co-driving with Rylan Gray) both crashed heavily in this morning’s session, with both cars sustaining enough damage to be ruled out of the rest of today’s running.

While both drivers were seen and released from the Medical Centre, their cars will not participate in qualifying later today.

But it was Golding – who was first to the chequered flag in last year’s epic race, but finished third due to a penalty – who fired the warning shot ahead of this afternoon’s enamouring battle for provisional pole.

Further interest centres on protagonists Matt Payne and Brodie Kostecki, whose cars are both undergoing engine changes prior to Qualifying.

This afternoon’s qualifying will determine the 10 drivers who will contest tomorrow’s iconic Top Ten Shootout Saturday, setting the grid for Sunday’s 1000-kilometre endurance classic.
