Visa Cash App Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson just missed out on the top 10 Q3 qualifying and will start from 11th for the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday. Teammate Arvid Lindblad made it through to Q3 and will start ninth on the grid.
“Terribly executed,” commented Lawson. “We were quite good in Q1 and the car has been really quick. I locked up in the first lap and just a really bad second lap (Q2) so, it’s not a surprise. Honestly, it’s just a shame because the car is really good.”
McLaren’s Lando Norris came out on top setting the fastest qualifying time and will start from pole position beating both Ferrari drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, with the lead Ferrari driver later demoted to P5 with a grid penalty.
Having qualified fourth fastest, F1 championship leader Kimi Antonelli was given a three-place grid penalty for a rule violation during Saturday’s Qualifying session.
In a post-Qualifying investigation, Antonelli was found to have failed to slow sufficiently for yellow flags brought out when Red Bull’s Max Verstappen spun in Q3, breaching Appendix H, Article 2.5.5 b) of the International Sporting Code and B1.8.4a of the FIA F1 Regulations.
Having gained a spot on the grid due to Lewis Hamilton’s three-place drop for impeding McLaren rival Oscar Piastri at the end of Q3, the Italian will now drop back down the grid to P7 for Sunday’s race.
