Giltrap scores maiden podium in Zhuhai double-header

Marco Giltrap delivered his strongest weekend of the 2026 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia season at Zhuhai International Circuit, claiming a breakthrough second-place finish in Round 3 before a first-lap incident cut short a promising Race 4.

Piloting the #66 Team Porsche New Zealand Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992.2), Giltrap qualified P3 and P4 for the two races — placing himself firmly in the hunt for results from the outset at a circuit returning to the Carrera Cup Asia calendar for the first time since 2021.

From third on the grid, Giltrap produced a composed and measured drive to move forward through the field. Consistent pace and a clean race saw him cross the line in second place — his first podium of the 2026 season and a clear statement of intent as the championship intensifies.

The second race of the weekend began with equal promise. Giltrap launched strongly from fourth and immediately placed himself in contention for the lead. However, contact at Turn 1 on the opening lap caused race-ending damage to the #66 machine, resulting in a DNF and ending what looked set to be another competitive result.

Despite the Race 4 retirement, the Zhuhai weekend reinforced Giltrap’s status as a genuine front-running contender in the Pro class. Strong qualifying, consistent race pace, and a maiden podium provide a platform to build from as the season progresses.

Now sitting fourth overall, Giltrap and the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia head to Fuji Speedway, Japan, for Rounds 5 and 6 on 8–10 May 2026.
