New Suzuki Swift class proposed for domestic NZ rallying scene

Palmside NZ supported by Mackersy Motorsport is now working on introducing a new feeder class for the domestic NZ rally scene.  The choice is to use a 2004 or newer Suzuki Swift Sport because of an easy supply of cars and parts at a cost-effective price.  This includes upgrades like gear ratio change, LSD, suspension, as well as the 1600cc twin cam engine in order to make it a viable and cost-effective option.

“We understand rallying is expensive and these will not be out right contenders,” said Palmside NZ’s Deane Buist.  “It’s about trying to bring new blood to the sport in a cost-effective way, ideally if we can get a few cars running at set events it will make it more fun.

“Along with the support from Mackersy Motorsport, we are building a car that can be leased plus there are others also in the build process.  With the existing number of cars around we are hoping to get more running as the year progresses.”

“Ideally other experienced competitors might look to build cars to help foster new competitors via a lease arrangement and we are working on outside support to help keep event costs down.”

Details available for people wanting to build cars down to arranging a build if needed and should be directed to Deane Buist at Palmside NZ in Christchurch
