Kiwi driver Louis Sharp has come away from the British Grand Prix round of the FIA Formula 3 Championship with a solid 15-points and now sits 17th in the Drivers’ Points Standings. The Silverstone Circuit hosted the fifth round which saw Sharp qualifying third fastest overall. In Saturday’s Sprint Race (reverse top 12) Sharp collected three-points after finishing in eight, following up with a fourth in Sunday’s Feature Race and another 12-points.
Although Sharp crossed the Feature Race line in eighth, a number of post-race penalties and a disqualification of the winner moved him up to fourth .
A post-race report by the FIA Technical Delegate indicated that Car #6 of TRIDENT’s Matteo De Palo, who initially crossed the line in first, had not met the minimum height requirement and was in breach of the championship’s technical regulations. As a result, De Palo was disqualified from the results of the Feature Race, with Maciej Gladysz inheriting the win.
Ernesto Rivera, James Wharton, Alessandro Giusti were given a five-second time penalty for failing to follow the race Director’s competition notes in relation to weaving after the bridge between Turn 14 and 15 while Nandhuvad Bhirombhakdi was also been given a five-second time penalty for exceeding track limits on five different occasions.
Ugo Ugochukwu continues to lead the Drivers’ Championship on 104 points, while Freddie Slater stays second with 86. Théophile Nael is third with 60 points, ahead of Noah Stromsted on 57. Sharp sits 17th with a total of 17-points.
The drivers will get a short break before returning to the track for Round 6 at Spa-Francorchamps from July 17-19.
