Final day at Townsville 500, as Payne dominates Saturday

Sunday at the NTI Townsville 500 will see the final race of the weekend at North Queensland’s largest annual sporting event.

Supercars will hold Boost Mobile Qualifying and a final 200-kilometre race on the streets of Reid Park today, with Race 22 of the 2026 championship to wrap up the weekend in Townsville.

Matt Payne is the man to beat heading into Sunday after decimating the field on Saturday, winning by over 15 seconds from Anton De Pasquale.

It was Payne’s third win of the year and second of his career in Townsville, he now holds a 61-point lead over Broc Feeney in the championship.

Feeney has struggled for qualifying form this weekend. The 23-year old Gold Coaster qualified 16th on Friday and 17th on Saturday, however did manage to recover into the top 10 in both races so far.

Brodie Kostecki has won both Boost Mobile Poles this weekend, but has not been able to convert them to victory.

Supercars action in Townsville begins today with Boost Mobile Qualifying at 11:25 a.m. AEST.

The three-part qualifying session will conclude with a Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout, setting the grid for today’s race, which begins at 3:05 p.m.
