Key points for SVG after finishing sixth in Georgia

Shane van Gisbergen led his Trackhouse Racing team with a sixth-place finish in the Quaker State 400 Available at Walmart NASCAR Cup Series race at EchoPark Speedway, Georgia, on Sunday evening. Teammate Ross Chastain placed 11th and Connor Zilisch finished 28th in the 400-mile race.

“I’m still replaying the last two laps in my head, but we’ll take a sixth-place finish,” commented SVG. “We needed a great points day.

“Overall, it was an excellent day for this No. 97 SuperFile Chevrolet team. We were up front for most of the race. We didn’t get many stage points, but we got some. We’ll take that and move onto next weekend (at North Wilkesboro Speedway).”

The Kiwi started the race 12th and was able to finish 16th in Stage 1. His #97 team came to pit road at the stage break for fresh tires and fuel after van Gisbergen reported the handling of his SuperFile was overall ‘decent’.

Having started 17th in Stage 2, SVG quickly raced into the top-12. On lap 109 the race was delayed due to inclement weather. When the race resumed on lap 124, van Gisbergen restarted 15th after coming to pit road for service.

Van Gisbergen then ran inside the top-10 for the final 37 laps of the stage and finished 10th, earning one stage point. He pitted for tires and fuel at the stage break and started eighth in the final stage.

He battled his way up to fourth when a caution flew on lap 194 and team pitted for four fresh tires and more fuel. Van Gisbergen restarted 14th with 61 laps remaining in the race and quickly broke inside the top 10. In an overtime restart, He lined up fifth and battled to the finish capturing a well-earned sixth-place finish.

The NASCAR Cup Series will return to action Sunday, July 19 at North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway.
