SVG to race at Darlington this weekend

Shane van Gisbergen will make his fourth NASCAR Cup Series start at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway in South Carolina this weekend at the Goodyear 400 NASCAR Cup Series race. Van Gisbergen will sport the iconic WeatherTech colors for the first time this season at Darlington.

WeatherTech has backed him since he began his NASCAR career in 2024. The relationship goes back to 2017 when van Gisbergen made three starts for WeatherTech Racing during the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship season.

Last season, van Gisbergen piloted his WeatherTech Chevrolet to three victories, one of them being in WeatherTech’s backyard at the Chicago Street Race. In these three victories, van Gisbergen secured one pole position (Chicago) and led 139 laps.

Last Weekend in Las Vegas, SVG started the 267-lap Pennzoil 400 race 16th, but on the first lap, he briefly lost the handling to his No. 97 Chevrolet, causing front end damage. He fought to maintain position the whole race but ultimately finished 36th.

He enters this weekend’s race at Darlington 16th in the Cup Series driver standings. He is one point behind 15th place.

Darlington Raceway is a 1.366 mi (2.198 km) egg-shaped oval track which has hosted racing events since its inaugural season in 1950, primarily races sanctioned by NASCAR. The venue has a capacity of 47,000 as of 2021 and is owned by NASCAR and led by track president Josh Harris.
