Tough day in Pennsylvania for SVG

Ross Chastain led Trackhouse Racing with an eighth-place finish in the Great American Getaway 400 presented by VISITP NASCAR Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania on Sunday afternoon. Connor Zilisch placed 23rd and Shane van Gisbergen was credited with a 31st-place finish.

“Tough day for our 97 SuperFile team,” said van Gisbergen. “Felt like we had a good run going and was working our way forward, then got involved in an accident which ruined our chances for a decent result. It’s a shame that happened, but we’ll continue to push forward.”

Van Gisbergen started 31st for the 400-mile race in Pocono and steadily worked his way forward in a caution-free stage, finishing Stage 1 22nd. At the stage break, the No. 97 team came to pit road for fresh tires and fuel. Van Gisbergen reported the balance on his SuperFile Chevrolet was decent overall.

He started Stage 2, 25th and on lap 48 was involved in a multi-car accident while running 19th. The #97 team came to pit road multiple times to repair the damage and van Gisbergen restarted the stage with the field, 33rd. He finished the stage 33rd and one lap off the leaders.

In the final stage, van Gisbergen battled to get back on the lead lap, but ultimately came up short and finished the race, 31st.

The NASCAR Cup Series will return to action Sunday, June 21 at Coronado Naval Base in San Diego.
