Ross Chastain led Trackhouse Racing with a 20th-place finish in the NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon. Connor Zilisch finished 33rd while teammate Shane van Gisbergen was credited with a 34th-place finish.
“Tough race today, but glad we were able to finish as many laps as we could,” said van Gisbergen. “Bristol is a difficult track for me, but just need to continue to figure out what works best here for my driving style. We’ll learn from this and hopefully have a better crack at it later this year.”
Van Gisbergen started 33rd for the 500-lap race. He battled to maintain position from the start as he fought a loose handling Chevrolet.
He fell off the lead lap on lap 46, but when the caution came out on lap 62, the No. 97 team opted to take the wave around and gain the lap back.
Van Gisbergen went on to finish the first stage, 33rd then lined up 30th to start Stage 2 but on lap 160, he spun and was collected in a three-car accident. The No. 97 team spent 158 laps repairing the damage on the WeatherTech Chevrolet and re-entered the contest on lap 317. Van Gisbergen raced for the remaining 183 laps and was credited with a 34th-place finish.
The NASCAR Cup Series will return to action Sunday, April 19 at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City.
