Shane van Gisbergen will make his fifth start at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway this weekend with the Jack Link’s 500 NASCAR Cup Series race this Sunday 26 April 2026.
“We’ve got some things in the works to try to make our cars quicker,” commented SVG. “We normally qualify in the 30s, so hopefully we see a step up there on Saturday. That will mean we have a faster car and it’s easier to make moves. I feel like we are a bit hamstrung there so hopefully we are a bit quicker.”
Last autumn at the 2.66-mile superspeedway, van Gisbergen captured an 11th-place finish, his best at the Alabama track. His previous best, a 15th-place effort, came in the autumn of 2024.
“The superspeedway racing, I feel like I’ve gotten better at, but my results aren’t great yet. It’s hard to finish these races. There is so much unpredictability, but you still see those guys that are there every time and put their selves in good places. I’m getting better at it, just need to keep getting those finishes and experience.”
Van Gisbergen will sport the iconic WeatherTech colors for the third time this season at Talladega. WeatherTech has backed van Gisbergen since he began his NASCAR career in 2024. The relationship goes back to 2017 when van Gisbergen made three starts for WeatherTech Racing during the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship season.
Van Gisbergen enters this weekend’s race at Talladega 18th in the Cup Series driver standings. He is just 32 points behind 16th-place, the last spot in The Chase.
